violence. there have been 28 murders this year half of them gang related. the chief promised the only purpose of operation community shield is reducing violent crime. >> if they start overstepping bounds as far as immigration goes he's made it clear there is is the s.not going to be hesitation. >> since taking over the police department in february the chief made great strides rebuilding trust with communities of color. but many say he should rethink his decision to partner with ice, homeland security investigations. >> there is a tremendous down side to this. that is not worth it. and i think the chief has to follow that intelligence from these groups. >> to you, i spoke with a representative from ice who says the department the agency is open to the kind of meetings being propose fd it takes place, the question is whether it will will be enough to sway community leaders to the police chief's way of thinking on this issue.

in san jose abc 7 news. >> thank you. and staying in san jose 22 firefighters laid off last year because of cuts were reinstated today. they got their jobs back thanks to a $15 million grant from fema. and 49 firefighters laid off last year, only 22 returning. the others have found other jobs. >> for a career like firefighting, it was worth taking a risk. and hopefully everything can work out, you know? for the best. but if you worry about the possibilities being negative then you know success is not going to come. >> less than a month ago there was a second round of layoffs announcing rolling brownouts taking an engine out of service. but with funding the fire chief says those brownouts could now be refuse deuced or eliminated. >> and layoff notices will go out monday to about 200 employees in san francisco court system.

40% of the staff. the layoffs taking affect in september giving workers 60 days notice and will force 25 courtrooms to close. state cuts have left the san francisco qourts a $14 million deficit. the presiding judge says there will be a severe impact and has called a news conference for monday morning. >> smoking ban in san francisco in place for years but a change to that law is now having an impact on places where a certain type of smoking continued. the city is cracking down on hookah lounges. >> we are at a restaurant in the haigt. the owner says this has been a thriving business 20 years thanks to the draw of the hookah pipes. the smoke product is a combination of tobacco molasses and fruit flavoring. the city says tobacco is a

in san francisco abc 7 news. >> that new jersey man accused of stealing a picasso from a san francisco art gallery back in court today appearing before a judge to enter a plea. and authorities believe he was created a kind of personal art show. mark lugo pled not guilty to taking the picasso off the wall of the gallery. we've seen him in had this video with what appears to be the sketch. and there is more. police in new jersey searched his apartment, and found another picasso and six other works valued at a half million dollars, stolen from new york hotels and galleries. >> he does have an eye for art. >> his attorney contends the 30-year-old never intended to resell the art work. and believes his behavior needs to be evaluated. >> that speaks more to a

google claiming the company is liable for an anonymous club attacking his -- blog attacking his reputation. google appeal that had decision. >> i think it's a form of cyber bullying. >> he says an anonymous blogger is ruining his reputation there. is a blog in his name on a google owned web site. at the top of his search results. above the page about his nonprofit foundation and about his top-rated iphone app. >> explain why someone wants to do this to you?. >> if i speculate that would make me as bad as they are. >> after labeling him a scam artist, the blog says he never finished high school, and says his mother is in a nursing home which she isn't. and in fact she walked into court to testify on his behalf. he told a judge he wants google to take the blog down and tell him who wrote it. and he wants google to pay damages for not doing it sooner. but a lawyer for google said

we have the story from inside yos sem tie this quiet area of yosemite has become a favorite spot of an unwelcome guest. rangers say this 220 black bear has broken into eight homes in the past week he was on my property on saturday. my dog barked a lot and alerted me to the bear. and so i just stayed in the house. >> norman lived here for 78 years and has seen his fair share of bear buzz not recently. >> this bear now is the first we've had now for some years. >> park rangers used a trap to catch the bear last weekend. they put a radio caller and numbed ear tag on him and drove him out of the area. but he came back days later he has found food and whenever they find food of any kind even in someone's house they're going to hang around. >> the park posted flyers on

doors and homes where the bear has been spotted letting people know about the encounters and encouraging them to use certain safety precaution autos make sure you use provided bear food storage lockers that way and anything with a scent goes in there. not just food and drinks. sun tan lotion stuff that has a scent a bear is attracted to. >> rangers say it appears this bear has been eating a lot of bird seed. and the reminding people to lock windows doors and cars. but despite having as many as 500 bears roaming yosemite rangers say it's a safe place for residents and visitor autos there has never been a bear attack here in yos sem tie in yosemite abc 7 news. >> and let's get a check on the forecast now. >> when will it warm up? >> there is like the movie groundhog day. >> we're feeling it yes. yes.

area. there is low pressure system and another one coming in behind it. to reenforce this pattern we've had. and there is a ridge of high pressure and we won't see a significant warm up. that will not begin to happen until next week. and there is a minor increase in temperatures. highs for low to mid-70s up to about 74 degrees and there is highs beginning to move into low 70s. there is 60 in half moon bay. and downtown san francisco 62 degrees. north bay highs from about 70 to 73 in petaluma. and there is near east bay highs will be in a narrow range mid to upper 60s

a missing teenager from india turned up safe after three weeks. the 15-year-old disappeared june 23 from a los angeles hotel where w.a tour group he was with had been staying. he was found wednesday in a hindu temple in merced county. his disappearance launch aid wide search. los angeles police interviewed his traveling companions. he told investigators he befriended a hindu cab driver

in l.a. and that man helped him buy a greyhound ticket to san francisco. the youngster got confused when the bus stopped in merced. >> he heard a person talk about san francisco, not having command of the english language end ended up getting off the bus here in merced. >> l.a. county child welfare officials are making arangements for him to return home to india. >> and new security cameras will be monitoring streets of oakland fruit veil district and there is a joint ship tomt deter crime in the neighborhood. the goal is to get police to monitor cameras in realtime to identify suspects. the first camera put into place today outside of the restaurant with popular owner was purr murdered in a for his daughter, the installation comes none too soon. >> in three months my father was murdered unjustly.
